"20 YEARS OF EXCELLENCE IN CRAFTS "

Walford Mill Crafts is celebrating its 20th anniversary of being a centre of excellence for contemporary crafts.

The history of the Mill is clouded in uncertainty. It is believed to have been in existence since the 16th century. After it ceased operation as a working mill in 1966, it has been used as a coal yard, a builder's yard, a furniture showroom and finally a craft centre.

In 1986, Walford Mill Craft Centre was opened by HRH Duchess of Gloucester. For 20 years the Mill has presented high quality craftwork by local and national craftspeople in its shop including textiles, wood, jewellery, glass, ceramics, metal work and much else. It also features approximately eight contemporary exhibitions every year in its gallery showcasing work by local, national and international makers.

The 20th anniversary will be celebrated with a special exhibition, "20/20", featuring contemporary craft work by 20 selected makers who have contributed to the Mill's success over the past two decades. The exhibitors include local and national craftspeople such as John Leach, Yvonne Morton, Peter Moss and Rebecca Newnham. "20/20" will be opened by John Makepeace and will be exhibited in the gallery from May 20th until July 2nd 2006.

Walford Mill Crafts will also be celebrating its anniversary by renaming the exhibition gallery as the "Philip Goulden Gallery" in memory of the Finance Manager who gave 18 years of his life to the Mill and passed away in October 2004.

Walford Mill is proud to have achieved its success over these 20 years and it has become a major attraction for local people and tourists visiting the area.

Come and join in the celebrations of Walford Mill Crafts' 20th anniversary on May 20th and take the chance to visit this unique exhibition.
