Anna Lewington

Anna works with rushes harvested herself from her local river, the Stour, in North Dorset. Based close to the river at Gold Hill Organic Farm in Child Okeford, she set up RushWorks in 2006 to help revive the art of rush work and rush cutting which, until the 1960s, had been practiced locally for several hundred years.

Inspired by the unique qualities of the elegant club rush, whose dark green, cylindrical stems present an enticing array of rich golds, greens, yellows and browns once dried, she has been making a variety of unique baskets and other items, inspired by tradition and to her own design.

Anna is a member of the Basket Makers' Association. She has a long-standing interest in environmental issues, especially the traditional uses made by people of plants.
