Walford Mill Education Trust receives £4000 from
Lottery under Awards for All

Walford Mill are delighted to have received a grant which has allowed an exciting project entitled 'Motivate and Activate' to come to fruition. The project was devised in conjunction with East Dorset District Council's Arts Development Officer who raised the issue of the empty wall spaces at Queen Elizabeth Leisure Centre in Wimborne. Walford Mill chose five artists to lead five community groups in the production of art-work to enliven the wall space. The project also helped to raise issues of healthy lifestyles and create a public exhibition, officially opened in December 2004.

Five community groups have been involved in the project:
Beaucroft School
Queen Elizabeth School
Users of Queen Elizabeth Leisure Centre
Young adults from the Heatherlands Estate
Older people aged 60+

The East Dorset District Council DRAG group also awarded £831 towards the Vulnerable young adults group who worked with photographer Stephen Cross. Walford Mill are delighted to have been given the grant which also creates a link with another new group.

Walford Mill are always keen to build links with schools. If you would like to plan a visit or require worksheets to accompany exhibitions please contact Caroline Parrott - Education Officer who will be happy to help. Projects in the past have included gallery talks, artists in residence, schools exhibitions and workshops with craftspeople. Projects can take place on-site at the Mill or as outreach work.

Walford Mill Crafts runs workshops for adults and children. There is a wide range of adult's classes run at the Mill throughout the year and there is a Craft Club, Craft Lab and Summer Workshops for children.
