EDUCATION PROJECTS
Walford Mill Crafts runs workshops for adults and children throughout the year. Follow the links for information about our current classes for adults and children's craft activities or find out about our ongoing educational projects below...
Wildlife at Walford Mill
In 2008 funds were raised to install a camera to capture the movements of the otters in the River Allen, passing under the Mill. Further cameras have been installed in a nesting box and a bird feeder. This has already brought us new audiences from our collaboration with Dorset Wildlife Trust.
Walford Mill's Outreach Programme
Walford Mill has been developing its educational programme in order to make better links with the National Curriculum and provide opportunities for schools to visit and participate in workshops. There are regular visits by local schools which includes Blandford School and Queen Elizabeth School.
In 2006, ‘A’ level students in both Fine Art and Textiles courses used the ‘Footsteps’ Exhibition as their source material and Walford Mill was able to exhibit some of the student’s finished work in the Broadening Horizons exhibition. This exhibition also gave opportunity to selected attendees to exhibit their creations that they made during workshops at Walford Mill along side their tutors' own work. The exhibition was of the highest standard.
Walford Mill continues to work closely with schools as well as community groups on a wide variety of projects. If your school or group is interested in working on a project with Walford Mill then please contact our Education Officer on 01202 841400 for further information.
The Big Draw
Walford Mill takes part in the Big Draw, national drawing event every year. Previous projects included working in collaboration with local businesses, schools and community groups on drawing faces from our town as well as creating an 18th century scene that was exhibitied in our gallery.
The East Dorset District Council DRAG group also awarded £831 towards the Vulnerable young adults group who worked with photographer Stephen Cross. Walford Mill are delighted to have been given the grant which also creates a link with another new group.
Walford Mill are always keen to build links with schools. If you would like to plan a visit or require worksheets to accompany exhibitions please contact Caroline Parrott - Education Officer who will be happy to help. Projects in the past have included gallery talks, artists in residence, schools exhibitions and workshops with craftspeople. Projects can take place on-site at the Mill or as outreach work.
Walford Mill Crafts runs workshops for adults and children and has a wide range of adult's classes and children's craft activities run at the Mill throughout the year.
