Here at Walford Mill Crafts we deliver a comprehensive workshop programme using local and nationally recognised makers. Please see below for information on all forthcoming workshops at Walford Mill Crafts:

Please note some classes require you to purchase extra materials or to bring materials and/or equipment with you. Please contact the tutor for details of materials and equipment needed for each class.

Booking is essential for all workshops and is done direct with the tutor.

Walford Mill reserves the right to cancel, postpone or alter published arrangements at their discretion.

Saturday 10th August 2019 - Shibori and Indigo with - Tiggy Rawling

Shibori is Japanese for creating patterns by resist dyeing.  The methods used include stitching, binding and clamping.  Complex patterns can be achieved as well as pleasingly simple ones.

The morning will be spent preparing cloth and making the indigo vat.  After lunch the vat will be ready for dipping and dyeing.  Just watch and be amazed as the cloth changes into magical blue.

Saturday 7th September 2019 - Silver Clay Inspired by Nature - with Grainne Reynolds

Come and make your own solid silver jewellery from silver clay, inspired by nature this fun and informal workshop is suitable for beginners and those with some experience.

In this class we will be using natural forms such as shells, leaves, seed pods and flowers to make moulds and to texture the silver clay. Each student will have the opportunity to make between 1-4 pieces dependant on if they choose to work big or small.

You will learn…

  • How to make reusable moulds and create texture mats using leaves, seed pods, fossils, shells and feathers etc
  • How to use the moulds and textures with silver clay to create a pendant, charms or earrings.
  • How to refine and tidy your piece for a good finish.
  • How to fire, polish and patinate your jewellery to highlight detail and make your design pop!

Friday 20th September Willow Workshops: Fruit Basket - with Nina Stockings

Make and take home your own hand made fruit bowl.  During thr course you will learn 4 different weaves and use natural coloured willow, making your basket truly individual.  Enjoy a day of craft with refreshments provided and a delicious lunch at the Millstream Bistro included.

Sunday 22nd September 2019 - Introduction to Reduction Lino Cutting - with Robin Mackenzie

This one-day workshop is perfect for beginners looking to learn a new technique.

You will be taught the principles of designing for print, how to separate your design into two colours, methods for cutting lino, and how to print a two colour reduction print on Robin's 1854 Albion press.

On this one day introductory course you will learn how to handle, roll, texture, cut, fire and finish your own designs.

By the end of the day you will have two or three pieces of (hallmark quality 999) Silver Jewellery ready to wear on your way home, along with plenty of new skills.

Small class sizes in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

This course is perfect for beginners or those wishing to refresh their skills.

Plenty of tea coffee and delicious biscuits available throughout the day.

Make your own medieval Bee Skep, suitable for bumble bees to nest in.   Bumble bees are excellent pollinators for your garden and live in small colonies of about 30.   During the course you will weave your bee skep using traditional methods, applying different weaves and colours, making your skep truly individual.   Enjoy a day of craft with refreshments provided and a delicious lunch at the Millstream Bistro included.

Friday 15th November - Willow Workshops: Bird Feeders - with Nina Stockings

Make two attractive willow bird feeders, one to fill with fat balls and another to fill with suet.    These make great additions to your garden or thoughful handmade gifts.   Our wild birds rely on this extra feed during cold and wet winters and will be regular visitors to your feeders.    Enjoy a morning or afternoon of craft with cake and hot drink.
