Sat 2nd Apr - Spoon Carving - Jack Fazey In this workshop you will learn all the skills and techniques needed to craft your own wooden spoons by hand, using just an axe & knife. Suitable for absolute beginners as well as those who may already have some experience, rest assured you will be guided through each step slowly, thoroughly & enjoyably! All materials are provided but you are very welcome to bring any special pieces of wood or reclaimed rusty bits to work with. Fri 29th Apr - Raffia Lampshade Workshop - Claire Richards Do you have a perfectly lovely small lamp at home that would like a raffia facelift? Perhaps you just love the look of raffia in your home as an interiors material – why not, what’s not to love? Now is your chance to create your own bespoke raffia lampshade finish and also learn how to create many other stunning styles. If you like to upcycle, this is the workshop for you. If you love the look of raffia for your home, this is the workshop for you. If you like to buy a lampshade bargain from a charity shop and give it a raffia face lift...then this is the workshop too. This is the workshop that gives you the chance to enjoy working with raffia, learn new techniques and take home a lamp that has just enjoyed a lovely raffia face-lift. All raffia supplied, if you have a small table lamp with a shade at home then please bring along. Otherwise there will be a small lampshade available for students to purchase and work on – please note that this may be a charity shop purchase. During the day you will learn how the willow and rush are harvested and processed. You will learn several key weaving techniques, which you can practice at home to make more baskets.
