Saturday 18th January - Full Day Spoon Carving Workshop - Jack Fazey

In this workshop you will learn all the skills and techniques needed to craft your own wooden spoons. You will be taught the safe use of the axe, sloyd knife and crook knife as well as how to select wood for carving and ultimately how to make some wonderful wooden spoons!

Participants can expect to finish the day with a brand new hobby to continue at home as well as a lovely wooden spoon or two.

A perfect Christmas gift for those crafty folk in your life!

Sunday 19th January - 3hr Spoon Carving Workshops - Jack Fazey

For those not ready to commit to a full day's carving, these 3 hour workshops are a great introduction into the wonderful world of spoon carving.

During the workshop you will learn how to carve with two different types of knife - the sloyd & the crook - essential tools for carving spoons and more...

Rest assured you will leave the session with your very own hand carved wooden spoon, plus the skills to carry on the craft at home if you so wish.

A fun day working with driftwood and reclaimed materials to create your very own miniature harbour complete with tiny harbour cottages.

All materials are provided but you are very welcome to bring any special pieces of wood or reclaimed rusty bits to work with.

Step-by-step tuition to guarantee great results, in the very comfortable new education room at Walford Mill.

Refreshments are provided throughout the day, but please provide your own packed lunch (there is a Coop within a few minutes walk should you wish to buy food on the day).

Unleash your creativity in this expressive watercolour workshop using a range of techniques, tools and materials. Learn to add texture through mark making, found objects and layering up.

Discover how to gather and develop ideas, loosen up and paint emotive landscapes (or your own topic if preferred). The only rule is - there are no rules!

Saturday 8th February - Ginza Bauble workshop by Jen Kent

This is a workshop for Jen Kent's latest Christmas Bauble design. In this wonderful one day workshop you will learn how to make your very own beaded Christmas bauble in CRAW (Cubic Right Angle Weave).

Previous beading experience is helpful but you will be guided through each step.

Sunday 9th February - Introduction to Reduction Lino Cutting - with Robin Mackenzie

This one-day workshop is perfect for beginners looking to learn a new technique.

You will be taught the principles of designing for print, how to separate your design into two colours, methods for cutting lino, and how to print a two colour reduction print on Robin's 1854 Albion press.

Saturday 29th February - Silver Clay and Dichroic Glass workshop - with Grainne Reynolds

Design and make your own beautiful solid silver pendant incorporating a stunningly colourful nugget of dichroic glass.

In this workshop you will learn ...

  • How to cut, layer and fuse pieces of glass in a kiln to make your very own nugget of dichroic glass.
  • How to handle, roll, texture and layer the silver clay
  • How to roll silver clay coils.
  • How to make embellishments to add to your design.
  • How to incorporate a piece of dichroic glass within your pendant design.
  • How to form and attach a handmade bail.
 

This is a fun and informal workshop which is suitable for beginners and for those with some experience of using silver clay who would like to further develop their skills and knowledge.

*Please note all pieces will be kiln fired and posted out to participants this is due to the length of time the glass requires to cool down.

Saturday 7th March - Introduction to Silver Clay - with Claire Marshall

Come and explore the magical world of Silver Clay.

On this one day introductory course you will learn how to handle, roll, texture, cut, fire and finish your own designs.

By the end of the day you will have two or three pieces of (hallmark quality 999) Silver Jewellery ready to wear on your way home, along with plenty of new skills.

Small class sizes in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

This course is perfect for beginners or those wishing to refresh their skills.

Sunday 15th March 2020 - Needle-Felted March Hare - with Linda Courtney

Creating an adorable hare from wool fibres using needle-felting techniques.

You will be guided through the process of creating a 3D form and then applying your choice of colours and adding the finishing touches to bring out the individual characters.

All materials are provided and the equipment necessary will be available for you to use during the session.

With an all day session the aim is to provide a relaxed environment where you can work at your own pace but if you are a fast worker then there will be other mini projects to try!

Saturday 28th March - Drawing and Painting Classes "Inspired by Nature" - with Julie Herring

Get closer to nature, by ‘Drawing from observation’ with tuition and guidance by Artist/Tutor, Julie Herring.

Friendly, adult classes, suitable for beginners and improvers.

Subjects over the various drawing classes with Julie will be Spring flowers, seasonal flora, hedgerows, shells and a selection of items from the tutor’s own natural collection.

Indoor or outdoor sketching. Please bring sketchbooks and pencils and/or watercolours. Other materials provided.
