Figure This

September 23rd - October 29th 2006

Walford Mill Crafts is hosting an exhibition of mixed contemporary craftwork where makers explore the human form through different mediums entitled 'Figure This'.

Artists have used human body as a subject in their arts and crafts for hundreds of years.
From Leonardo da Vinci to Picasso, Michelangelo to Matisse, they were all inspired by
the aesthetics of the human body.

Today, many artists and craftspeople still continue to use this inspiration in their creative work and Walford Mill Crafts brings sixteen local and national makers together
to exhibit their work on this theme.

Lucy Casson, one of the exhibitors will be exhibiting her amazing figures made of metal and found objects. She says "When I began using tin and found objects to make sculpture. I felt I was continuing in a tradition of recycling. A tradition developed by the abundance of discarded man-made materials and people's ingenuity. My childhood was spent constructing things out of jumble sale finds and 'bits lying around'. In urban environments I've extended this. Recycled 'stuff' is an element in all aspects of my lifestyle and work."

The high quality, contemporary craftwork in this exhibition will include ceramics, paper, textiles, jewellery, wire and metal.

The exhibitors in "Figure This" are Lucy Casson, Sophie Howard, Sonje Hibbert, Sue MaCarthur. Linda Miller, Peter Rush, Helen Godfrey, Becky Crow, Jill Booth, Lisa Krigel, Ella Huhne, Rachelle Carswell, Jenny   Southam, Taja, Abbott & Ellwood and Stephen Chambers.

Walford Mill Crafts is open Monday to Saturday 10am - 5pm and Sundays 12noon - 5pm.
