Part-Time Gallery Assistant 

Job Description

Nature of Employment: One day a week (1 Saturday or 1 Sunday)
(plus any extra days as required)

Hours per day:

9:45am - 5:15pm Saturdays (1/2hr Lunch)
10.45am- 4.15pm Sundays (1/2hr Lunch)  Sunday Paid as 7 hrs

Rate of Pay: National Minimum Wage

Reporting to : Senior Gallery Assistant and Chief Executive

Responsible for :
i) Junior or Volunteer staff in the shop and gallery
ii) work experience students in the shop

Overall purpose of the job:

To achieve the Board’s objectives for the retail operation of Walford Mill, in the context of agreed policies and procedures

Main duties and responsibilities:

1. To meet customer needs and achieve the highest standards of customer care.

2. To work with the Senior Shop and Gallery Assistant and to work as a team with the volunteer workforce, advised by the Chief Executive.

3. To liaise with the Senior Shop and Gallery Assistant and the Chief Executive on all aspects of arrangements for any special sales promotions, presentations or displays.

4. To organise and monitor all aspects of stock control and display, including contacting suppliers and handling customers special orders.

5. To be responsible for EPOS shop and exhibition sales systems and associated procedures, including handling cash, debit and credit card transactions, plus daily, weekly and monthly reconciliations and annual stocktaking.

6. Supervise the working conditions of volunteer staff in the shop and gallery, including induction and training procedures for new staff and for work experience students.

7. To provide a basic enquiry response service for the craft school and exhibition programmes, dispensing literature as available when office staff unavailable.

8. To participate in regular staff meetings and such other meetings as may from time to time be required.

Annual leave entitlement 28 days inc bank holidays pro-rata per annum (accrued quarterly)
Statutory sick pay entitlements
One months notice required on either side. Payment monthly in arrears.
