Indian Block Printing - Luminous Lampshades

A lovely full day of Indian block printing for beginners and experienced printers. This workshop is located in the beautiful Walford Mill, Wimborne, Dorset (For location and directions, please see below).


Try something new and illuminating this year. Print your own Lampshade!

Relax and enjoy the experience of hand printing your own unique fabric Lampshade using hand-carved wooden designs.

Choose from a wide range of contemporary and traditional designs, from beautiful birds to bright botanicals, all hand-carved in Indian Rosewood by local artisans in Jaipur, India.

Various sizes of drum lampshade kits available which can be used as a pendant ceiling light, table or floor lamp. 

During the workshop you will be guided through the simple process to print and create a beautiful fabric Lampshade that will be unique to you. We’ll provide the materials–you provide the imagination. Try it. You’ll love it!


Workshop Fee: £90 per person. All Materials included.


What’s Included

The course price includes 6 hours of guided tuition, a lampshade kit (various sizes available), use of a range of beautiful contemporary and traditional wood block designs and all materials including printing equipment and a variety of colourful fabric paints.


What to Expect

During the workshop you will learn the simple techniques to print beautiful fabric for a lampshade that will be special and unique to you. You will also be taken step-by-step through the simple process of how to assemble the lampshade. Please note that assembly can be a little bit fiddly, but there will be plenty of help available. There will also be plenty of hand-printed fabric samples available to help provide inspiration and unleash your creativity! 


Workshop Format

Morning 10.00am - 1.00pm (3 hours):

Introduction - What is Indian block printing

Resources - What materials to use and how to use them

Demonstration - How to block print

Designs - Choosing your block designs and paint colours

Practice - Printing designs on scrap fabric

Printing - Commence printing Lampshade Fabric


Lunch: 1.00 - 1.30pm (30 mins)

Refreshments and Lunch menu available from the courtyard cafe, Little Pickle at the Mill, including a £12 Picnic Lunch for those attending a workshop (see Refreshments below for more detail).


Afternoon 1.30pm - 4.00pm (2.5 hours):

Printing - continue printing Lampshade Fabric

Finale - Assembling Lampshade

Printing - Print 1 other fabric item (time permitting).


Refreshments

Tea, coffee, soft drinks and variety of sandwiches, salads and cakes available from the courtyard cafe, Little Pickle at the Mill. £12 Picnic Lunch also available for those attending a workshop in Walford Mill. The Picnic Lunch consists of a traditional sandwich/salad box, slice of cake and drink. Please place order in the café before 11am. Your lunch will be placed in a brown paper bag with your name on it ready for collection at 1pm from the back of Little Pickle at the Mill. 


What to Bring

You will be provided with all the materials you will need for the workshop but it is recommended that you bring along an apron as working with fabric paint can be messy! If you don't have an apron, don't worry, one can be provided on the day.
