Pop-up studio
The varied landscape of Dorset, infused with ancient and natural history, studded with secret places and edged by stunning coastline has provided Sophie with a wealth of inspiration. In her art, she aims to look at things from slightly different perspectives. She is fascinated by elements which are sometimes taken for granted, such as the subtle structures and textures in nature, or the fascinating foam patterns on the seashore. These are wonders which never cease to excite Sophie. Her aim is to create a sense of escape into these wonders, something which we can all identify with.
She is a self-taught artist who has been painting since she was a child, experimenting with different mediums. At present she is working with acrylics, trying to source products which are as kind to the environment as possible. The acrylics she uses comprise ground earth pigments which she mixes with a plant-based acrylic base to reduce the possibility of creating micro plastics. Previous acrylics she used contained, where possible, non-toxic pigmentation.
Her canvases are mainly unbleached or use wood which comes from sustainable sources.
She sketches from life and paint from her loft studio as a resident artist here at Walford Mill.
