Open As Usual - Despite the Flooding

Working in a water mill, we’re very used to being surrounded by water — but not usually quite as much as we’ve seen this month. Non-stop rain has caused the River Allen to rise to unusually high levels, leaving parts of the Mill ankle-deep in water and turning the courtyard into a lake and Little Pickle café into an island.
Unfortunately, due to the risk of damage to our electrics, we’ve been forced to close on occasion over the past couple of weeks. This has had a significant impact on our wonderful Makers and the café, and on their businesses. Despite the challenges, everyone has pulled together to clean up, adapt, and make the best of the situation.
The café even briefly relocated into the Mill’s education room, and wellies have quickly become standard Walford Mill wear! Little Pickle featured on BBC Radio Solent, and the Mill itself appeared in the Bournemouth Echo, helping to share our story further afield.
We’re hopeful that the rain will ease soon and water levels will recede, allowing Wimborne — and the Mill — to return to its former, drier state. Until then, we’re incredibly grateful for the resilience, teamwork, and community spirit shown by everyone involved.
We are open so please do still come for a visit - we would love to see you.
